Bulb steps up for the labels 18th release, with 2 very musically sublime tracks. If you haven’t heard the Russian wiz kid by now, you should def check him out! Having releases on a bunch of high quality labels such as Hospitals offshoot Med School, Soul:R, Kokeshi, Respect and of course Silk. Bulb also has featured on mixes and podcasts from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Hospital, RBMA, Kokeshi and countless other podcasts and radio shows.
Bulb has another musical project titled “Fill”. This is an outlet for a lot of his downtempo productions, which still have the same unique qualities and the high production standards as all his other works. Adding to this he is a regular DJ at some of the biggest parties in Russia and you can check his skills on the aptly titled podcast – “Into The Deep” which is hitting it’s 14th episode this week.
With a slew of 12” also forthcoming on the above mentioned labels as well as Silk, Bulb is showing no signs of slowing down in the near future.
Bulb – Lonely Gravity
A very complex and creatively soothing piece of music. Not your normal 170bpm track, this encompasses moods and emotions from another world slowly drifting back and forth like the sea on a calm day. Bulb has really hit the spot on this one by keeping it subtle but still having a big appeal to a wide range of listeners. This truly is music to melt your ears off!
Bulb – Default Settings
The 2nd track is made entirely from the default settings template in FL. To show producers that u don’t need all the sounds in the world but merely an understanding of the creative process and a seed inside your head! As Bulb has shown this is all it takes to achieve great results with something so simple. Originality and lush melodies soak up the beats in this effective but contrastingly bass heavy release.
m25 & Subsid Feat. First Function
The 4th offering from the Silk Recordings label comes to us with two liquid soulful rollers. Both tracks shed some light on the immense new talent that Silk brings thru. ‘Cold Feelings’ being the favorite of the two, having play-listed on BBC Radio 1 and in the sets of some of the biggest name DJ’s the scene has to offer, this shows the true support tracks of this quality deserve.
m25 & Subsid – Rio
The title of this track sums it up in one go. Lush piano chords play a very summery melody with uplifting hooks and soulful string stabs adding to the palette of sounds. Sweet vocals and a rolling vibe that fills out this beautiful piece of music, it all leads up to the sublime sax in the breakdown. This track really does what it says and puts you standing on the beach ready to hit the cool water.
m25 Feat. First Function – Cold Feelings
With a cold eerie pad starting us off, “Cold Feelings” drops into the amazing vocal work of First Function, complemented with a funky but emotional piano riff that plays right into the subtle percussion hits that fuze the sharp beats together.
Thanks to it’s sweeping pads and a very heavy low end sub melody this track is perfect for anytime during the day or night.
Pulsaar
Thomas Steiner, goes under the unique and innovative alias “Pulsaar.” Located in Stäfa, a small and beautiful city 20 minutes away from Zürich, Switzerland. Pulsaar works as a sound-engineer by day and by night works on live mixes and PA-Tecnics for various concert halls and venues around the area. Pulsaar also produces demo tapes for other musicians and sells hip hop beats to various local MC’s…
Starting to produce 14 years ago it’s fair to say that Pulsaar has defined his craft and is regarded as having a constant and high quality output with the ability to rock any dance floor. First starting on electronic music with a MC-303 Roland Pulsaar has worked on beats across the board including Hiphop, Triphop, Bigbeatz and finally Drum ‘n Bass. Essentially not a DJ, Pulsaar has played many live acts in his time using a MPC2000 with a Access Virus Synth, Emu E-6400 and a Döpfer Drehbank.
Some of the more famous places Pulsaar has played include: Lethargy in Zürich, and also the biggest DnB-Open air in Switzerland, “Lost in Nature” 5 and 6.
These are just some of Pulsaar’s highlights and really show his versatility and dedication towards music.
Pulsaar – Universe
Universe starts off with a haunting synth intro reminiscent of the beginning of time, quickly spiraling into vocal stabs that explode into the futuristic drums that Pulsaar is well know for. As the track progress uplifting synths and a more heavenly vocal break down into the first drop. What follows is a massive square bass groove with glorious strings and infectious vocal snippets throughout the rest of track, this tune has been hypnotizing dance floors worldwide.
Pulsaar – Starguitar
Future funk vibes all the way on this release. The fist drop builds up and shimmers along with rising sci-fi pads and trademark synth leads. The drop pushes to a seriously buzzing bassline that hovers over dreamy fx’s and builds up to the best part of the track – a seriously soulful and cosmic guitar solo that takes you to where you want to go. Cinematic strings build up to the next drop and the seriously heavy bass lets go once again.
Subway Funk
The mighty Subway Funk makes his debut on Silk Recordings with two soulful liquid rollers.
Pavel Rapinchuk hailing from Minsk, Belarus, started making music back in 1998. Back then the name of his project was just “Subway” and he was producing intelligent, jazzy jungle and easy listening. His first release was a CD entitled “Chaotic Impulses” and was for sale back in 2000. This was also the year when his track was first released on a compilation. Subway was also an active member of Belarusian (and world) demo-scene.
In 2003 he also started DJing in Minsk clubs with main focus on drum n bass. Since then he has played over 300 sets in clubs and on open air events in Belarus and the nearest countries.
Pavel still produces music, collaborates and remixes a lot (he has worked together with and artists Temax, Styx synth-pop band Shtrikh-Kot, rock-bans Dead Pilgrim and Siver and nu-jazz act Cherryvata) and these collaborations not always end in the studio: together with Temax and DSR he also plays back-2-back DJ sets and adds the sounds of live heavy guitars to drum n bass from his turntables.
After a trip to the UK in 2006, the name of the music project and DJ moniker was changed to “Subway Funk” and under this new name he made it to the top of drum’n'bass DJs in the country. With his love to drum n bass and new tracks and collaborations produced by him, he always has something for the curious ear and for the rocking dancefloor, which brings among the most requested drum n bass DJs and live acts in Belarus.
Subway Funk – Konstanta
With it’s fast snare hits and chopped think breaks this liquid composition rolls quickly into a delicate dub flavored vocal. The sub bass hits low on this one and the fresh melody finds a way to hypnotize the listener into a constant state of funk.
Subway Funk – Don’t let me down
The intricate drum edits and amazing female vocal work on this tune makes it stand out from the rest with ease. With an original jungle vibe this tune flows into a deep b-line thats sure to make every club speaker rattle all night long.
Forge
Label owner Forge brings Silk Recordings first ever release. Teaming up with producers Cubik & Jynx, both tracks have a menacing dancefloor vibe. Each side brings different production qualities and both will appeal to any listener that gives them a spin. Both releases have been heavily playlsited by many dj’s across the globe, be sure to grab a copy of Silk history.
Forge & Cubik – Ultraviolet
Hailing from NZ but currently residing in Australia Forge, teamed up with Cubik whom hails from the arctic land of Finland, together they bring a futuristic funk sound to the label. Filtered breaks build up this track into a distinctive arp sound with a haunting vocal that drops just before the breakdown. The dirty reso bass keeps the track moving deep into the night. Do not let this tune stand still.
Forge & Jynk – Unison
Unison delivers the best of both worlds. Encompassing the energetic and dancefloor style from Forge with Jynx’s deep dub influenced analog sound. This track has been in the hands of many producers & dj’s with the track being featured by Atom on the recent DOA mix.
Ballistics
A meeting of like minds began the partnership between Matt Balistics & Jamie Forge, owner of Silk Recordings. Shortly after Balistics was asked to manage the label while Forge focused on his passion to produce.
Balistics is extremly passionate about the drum & bass sound & after over 8 years of djing experience, 6 of them doing a weekly radio show, he was more than happy to step up to the plate & broaden his horizons in the industry. His first involvment was with Synth Sense & Anile’s debut release on Silk Recordings, who have since become long term friends.
After a consistant line of digital releases Silk Recordings is soon to release its first & highly anticipated LP from Finnish producer Furi Anga. From the beginning it has been a long term aim for Silk to release music in the format both Balistics & Forge found this sound on, vinyl.
Silk Recording’s is now close to releasing its first line of 12″ singles, one of the first coincidentally being a remix of the first release Balistcs was involved in, Synth Sense & Anile – Static Movment [Consequence Remix]. With a string of 12″ releases on there way from Silk, a few included in this mix, only time what other projects Silk Recordings has on the way.

Synth Sense
Synth Sense are an exciting new production duo from Kent. Focussing on experimental drum & bass with a futuristic edge, it is no wonder that both Horizons & Deep Soul Music have been quick to recognise their undoubted talent in the studio. The Synth Sense journey starts as far back as primary school, yet it wasn’t until they met again years later at secondary school that they realised that they both had similar musical tastes and started working together. After leaving school, both got into DJing & spent most of their time and money buying records and refining their skills on the turntables. This passion for DJ’ing provided a natural progression toward making their own music, and in 1997, they took their first steps toward this setting up a basic studio comprising of Cubase, a Roland keyboard & an Akai 3000xl sampler. Despite the steep learning curve needed to master the set-up they had, they spent the next 3 years persevering with their vision.
With the birth and explosion in popularity of techstep at the time, their music was heavily inspired and influenced by the heavier, darker sounds from artists such as Ed Rush & Optical, Dom & Roland, Stakka & Skynet, Konfilct and Teebee. Despite making progress with their music and catching the ears of various people within the scene, they had to take a break from writing music due to a host of external factors beyond their control. In spite of this however, their ambition to make music continued and fast forwarding to 2003, they finally managed to build another studio that took over a year of hard graft to complete. Given the nature of the technological explosion in music technology, they had to re-learn their craft again, but again, the strength of their conviction in what they were doing made them persevere in making drum& bass, although they also started to experiment with more abstract and down tempo electronic music at the same time. The combining of these two styles turned out to be a fortuitous decision on their part.
Toward the later part of the decade, the increasing prevalence of more abstract and experimental drum & bass spearheaded by the likes of dBridge, Instra:mental and Loxy amongst others, made them realise that there was a more open minded and accepting audience for the music that Synth Sense were making. They finally felt the time was right to really push on with their music and they have done just that, with 2010 and beyond finally looking like the time that the Synth Sense vision will be realised.

The Hybridz
The duo entitled “The Hybridz” was formed in early Jan 2011 and encompasses two simplistic minds from the furthermost corners of the earth – Australia & Brazil. Having only recently meet through, Jefferson’s (Integration Now) release on Jamie’s (Forge) label – Silk Recordings, the pair had very similar tastes in music and the direction they each wanted to take there own sound in. Before the name was even created they had already made their first batch of tunes. “Roots Of Resistance” (forth on Silk Rec) was finished in late December 2010 and would serve as the starting point for the duos first collab and set the standard for the influx of high quality tracks that were soon to follow.
Not sticking to one tempo and experimenting with all types of time signatures and beat patterns “The Hybridz” stands for deep experimentation and a simple but melancholic and bass driven sound with no boundaries. Building on this concept and keeping to their own musical tastes and roots, the duo are set to take this project in any direction they wish by both drawing on their musical and cultural influences, which at this point are as diverse as the music they make.
Their first official release is due out in the next few months on GBDA, which is a sub-label of the mighty “Peer Pressure Records” located in the USA. The release will be available on 12″ and a digital release date will be soon to follow. The next release is a digital single on Silk Recordings followed by a 12″ single due out in the 2nd half of the year. Following on from this a E.P of dubstep/garage tunes on 12″ and digital by brand new dubstep label – Solace Records. With many more releases to be confirmed keep an eye out in the record store for the duos signature sound.
Both artists still have heavy release schedules on there own, with labels ranging from the likes of Darkestral,Silk Rec, Something Deep & Extent VIP to name a few, this duo is set to busy over the next few months with literally some genre bending music to be released.

Ultracode
Ultracode was born in Kiev, Ukraine April 2, 1986 and currently lives in Chernigov. Musical tastes and inspirations that affect Ultracode range from the environment, family and of course his intellect and mind. Ultracode thakes these forces and forms music preferences for himself about the outside world. Ultracode believes framework dulls and suffocates the creative impulses, not letting them develop and materialize in the physical world. Ultracode can be found experimenting with dubstep and drum&bass with hints of idm, although in the first place all this interesting music is not tied to any one style. The time it takes Ultracode to complete his masterpieces range from a couple of hours to several months, factors such as intrinsic motivation and ideological saturation come into play.
My first experience of DnB came about at that moment when I got hold of the album by Aphrodite – Kings Of The Beats in 1999 together with a Panasonic CD player given to me for my birthday by my sister. For along time that was the only disc that I had, and I listened to it until I virtually destroyed it. Kings Of The Beats had an everlasting impression on me. I loved striding along the street with my CD player under the beat of Aphrodite! Now, when remembering that time, I am beginning to acknowledge that this was the time when I fell in love with DnB. I also remember how in primary school, walking to class in the morning, I used to tune my radio to a pirate radio station that played Breakbeat – those were some of the best moments of my childhood.
I’ve been seriously making music since 2007. I had tried doing something earlier on but this was playing around rather than anything worthwhile. In essence it meant that I would mix tracks and samples for the breakdancing shows. This was the way that I got my first experience. Finally, it was a very straight forward route to becoming a DnB producer. There wasn’t even a question of choosing it from a number of careers – it was simply a call of my heart and soul.
Within a short period of time Ultacode has been supported by world-renowned producers, such as: Hospital Records, Subwave (Metalhedz), Electrosoul System (Kos-mos), Gvozd, John B, Lostlojic, Enei, Yoshiteru Himuro, Dissident, Vishnu, Jalex, Dominic Rigway, Eleven8, Loxy, Presha, Paul B and many others. In 2011, Ultracode organized his own label Ultracode Koloa Records. The prodcuer is showing no signs of slowing down with releases for his label sure to do damage and turn heads worldwide.
